The "Right to Information" has been accepted as a fundamental human right by the United Nations. Accordingly, several countries in the world have enacted legislations to facilitate their citizens an easy access to government-held information and records. This results in greater transparency, efficiency as well as eradication of evils of corruption, favouritism and nepotism. In other words, the citizen's right to information results in good governance.
GC University Lahore follows Punjab Employees Efficiency Discipline and Accountability Act 2006 (amended 2017) to avoid any form of corruption, bribery and misconduct for the assurance of financial transparency and discipline in the University.
Every citizen shall have the right to freedom of speech and expression, and there shall be freedom of the press, subject to any reasonable restrictions imposed by law in the interest of the glory of Islam or the integrity, security or defense of Pakistan or any part thereof, friendly relations with foreign states, public order, decency or morality, or in relation to contempt of court, commission or incitement to an offence. Pakistan has the distinction of becoming the first country in South Asia to promulgate the Freedom of Information (FOI) Ordinance in 1997. Pakistan adopted a Freedom of Information Ordinance in 2002 which has remained in effect since then. In April 2010, the Constitution of Pakistan was amended to provide for a right to information.
