The department promotes research in all genres of Punjabi Literature and also stresses on comparative and interdisciplinary study of literature.
A research journal naming "Sulaikh" is approved by the worthy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Hassan Amir Shah and its first issue is in the printing process. This journal will include research articles by scholars from Pakistan and abroad.
The department Literary Society, Punjabi Majlis is a University level society. This society was established in 1926 and Prof. Shiv Ram Kayship was the first Incharge of the society. This society played a significant role in inculcating the reading and writing habits among the students to understand Punjabi literature and to produce appreciable and useful literary material. It provides a vista for creative thinking and literary pursuits to students of the university by holding regular Adabi Baithiks, All Pakistan Punjabi Mushaera, Lectures, Kafi Night and has been a center of creative activities for a long time.
