Investing in the Future:

Orientation in research activities is proving the faculty to be an asset with potential to invest in scholastic future of the Department and the University. The foreign qualified faculty trained in well-reputed international universities, like Columbia University, New York, USA, Erfurt University, Germany, and Sophia University, Tokyo has diverse experience in teaching and is passionate about endeavoring more through research. They have attended multiple esteemed national/international conferences and have published their articles in foreign as well as in nationally recognized (HEC approved) journals. They have established international linkages with multiple acclaimed institutes/universities of Europe, Far East Asia, Latin America, and South Asia to carve their niche in international research projects.

Projection of Student Potential:

The faculty strives to provide a classroom environment that encourages students to enhance their intellectual skills in learning philosophizing methods and, understanding global philosophies in indigenous cultural settings. The department has very recently established a research committee; Dr. Afzal Khan is acting as In-Charge of this committee; Ms. Saima Khan as a Focal-Person of research committee; Dr. Sobia Tahir as a Member research committee for M.Phil. program; Sir Yasir Sultan as Member research committee for BS program. This research committee will ensure the quality of departmental research by guiding members of department about choosing research topics of their interest within appropriate philosophical paradigms commensurate with the latest research methodology of proposal making process. Besides there are two research groups:

  • Core-Philosophical Research Group; Led by Dr Afzal Khan
  • Interdisciplinary-Philosophical Research Group; Led by Ms. Saima Khan
  • Brett Philosophical Society:

    Other than academic and research activities, various opportunities are provided to students for extra-curricular and co-curricular activities. The Department has a prestigious platform – Brett Philosophical Society – which being one of the oldest societies of GCUL, founded in 19th century, works to date as a distinguished intellectual forum through which students not only learn scholastic thoughts of renowned scholars but also get trained in administering and managing their activities under the supervision of their advisor.

    Quest:

    The department has a journal – Quest. It is published annually since 1991 to boost up research activity in the Department at both faculty and student level. The department is struggling to make this journal a part of HEC recognized journals by including quality research.

    Scope of Employability:

    The students on account of their grooming in conceptual analysis and in logic and critical thinking are enabled to write coherently and so they become perfect candidates for competitive exams to be civil servants and judicial officers. With these intellectual skills at their disposal students may explore their career in the fields of journalism, media, teaching, law, social work, armed forces, etc. Quite a large number of old students of this Department are holding prestigious positions in the country. They may include, not comprehend, the following,

    • Dr. Shehzad Qaiser (Ex.Federal Education Secretary & presently Vice President Iqbal Academy of Pakistan, Lahore.

    Teaching Methodology:

    Reading original texts and dialogical interaction is the chief form of teaching here. Before the commencement of each semester, every class is provided with course outline and text material of every taught subject to help them focus on with their studies without distractions and be able to understand the intricate theories and philosophical issues through discussions cum dialogues reinforced with international innovative teaching methods.

    Teaching Resources:

    The faculty is equipped with audio-visual facilities for modern techniques of teaching with the availability of Wi-Fi connection to access HEC provided electronic data resources for research and reading purposes. Notwithstanding the rich collection of classic and contemporary philosophical books and international journals at the Central and Postgraduate Libraries, the faculty is trying hard to establish a Seminar library at the departmental level to facilitate an immediate access to relevant books and journals.
