STRENGTHS OF THE DEPARTMENT

• The learning process at department of microbiology comprises of a combination of lectures (theory & practical), seminars/presentations, research projects, internships in various industries and hospitals, industrial tours, self-directed readings and independent studies.
• Department of Microbiology has six class rooms, one meeting room, one conference room. A set-up of six research laboratories, equipped with a wide array of facilities including basic and some advanced scientific equipments. These laboratories serve as dynamic spaces for cultivating practical skills in microbiology, molecular biology, and cutting-edge research methodologies.
• Cordial collaborations with a number of national and international research institutes and universities extends the opportunity of gaining far-reaching exposure for its students at national as well as international levels.

Department has in house Life Sciences Library situated at the basement, further provides unlimited access to the online learning resource and thousands of books on the subject.

In October 2022, Ibn-e-Sina Society of Microbiology (ISSM) was founded in order to pay tribute to Ibn-e-Sina in the field of Microbiology and as well to provide a platform of scientific activities to students. Since then, under the umbrella of ISSM, a number of scientific events were organized by the office bearers. The main objectives of the society are:

• Organizing conferences/seminars/awareness walks workshops to develop the valuable skills and experience relevant to their future career.
• Invitation to Eminent International and National scholars routinely for delivering lectures on recent trends in the field of microbiology.
• Provide opportunities for the students to take on leadership role by organizing events.

The vibrant students of microbiology have represented the department in various inter-departmental sports and co-curricular activities notably: GCU Debating society, GCU Dramatic Society, Nazir Ahmad Musical society, Hiking and Mountaineering club, GCU Blood Donor Society and the GCU book club & Biological Society.
