In 2021, the Department of History (est. in 1864) was elevated to an Institute. The mission of the Institute of History is to foster the understanding of history and its social, cultural, and economic importance, thus advocating the long-term future of the discipline and supporting its growth and development in the region.
The Institute of History is dedicated to training the next generation of archivists, art historians, and historians, and to producing and facilitating ambitious, innovative historical research. We provide the intellectual infrastructure for historians, through ambitious collaborative research initiatives, seminar series and events, digital resources, and libraries.
The Institute comprises the following Departments:
