Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) - School Education Program

Botanic Gardens have an obvious and vital role to play in conserving plants but conservation cannot be succeeded without education. Gardens are uniquely placed to teach people about the importance of plants in our lives and in the global ecosystem. By highlighting the threats that plants and habitats face, Botanic Gardens can help people to look at the ways in which biodiversity can be protected.

Botanic Garden GC University, Lahore is an incredible resource for teachers, students and scientists. GC University Botanic Garden has a wealth of many important plants of the world and is the oldest botanic garden of Pakistan. It was established in 1912 and at present 700 species of plants belonging to 132 plant families are there, covering 07 acres of land.

Sustainable Development Study Centre in collaboration with GCU Botanic Garden and Pakistan Botanic Gardens Network Secretariat is taking initiative to start an environmental education program for school students. In order to get the most out of their visits, children will be asked to participate in interactive games, hands-on activities, group discussion and art activities.
