The significance of mass media in shaping our contemporary world cannot be overstated. In today's information age, a discerning press is not only practical but also a moral imperative. It is within this context that our institute thrives, committed to providing a comprehensive education in media studies, digital communication, and media technology.
Our journey began in 1987 when Journalism was introduced as an elective subject at the undergraduate level by the Department of Political Science. As Government College Lahore attained university status in 2002, the subject's nomenclature shifted to Mass Communication. Subsequently, in September 2007, the Department of Mass Communication was established under the supervision of the Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Over the years, the department evolved, transitioning from offering mass communication as a minor subject to becoming the Department of Media and Communication Studies in 2021. Subsequently, in 2022, Department of Digital Communication and Media Technology was also established.
In 2022, our evolution culminated in the establishment of the Institute of Media and Communication Studies (IMACS), marking a significant milestone in our quest for academic excellence. This transformation underscores our unwavering dedication to providing an unparalleled educational experience in media studies and communication.
At IMACS, we espouse a holistic approach to media education, blending theoretical insights with practical applications. By studying the nuances of media and communication theories, exploring screen production intricacies, and fostering entrepreneurial dynamics, we empower our students to not only comprehend but actively shape the future of media.
Our learning environment is characterized by critical inquiry into the complex interplay between media, communication, and society. Beyond mere knowledge transmission, we instill in our students a deep understanding of how media influences and reflects societal dynamics. Through critical thinking, we equip them to engage in meaningful discourse and drive positive societal change.
The Institute of Media and Communication Studies (IMACS) aspires to attain regional and local recognition as a leading institution in media and communication studies.
