Facilities

Geography Department has some of the best facilities, notably Departmental Library, which has a collection of over 1000 books on Physical, Human, Environmental and Practical Geography, GIS, Remote sensing and Advanced Surveying, Map library, and National Geographic Magazines of the past four decades. Labs (GIS & Geography) are well-equipped for practical physical courses and independent research studies. Moreover, Modern surveying tools like Total station, GPS and Auto level.

The Geography Department boasts several strengths that enhance the academic and research environment for students and faculty:

Weather Observatory
The department maintains its own weather observatory, where students regularly observe and record temperature, wind speed and direction, evaporation, and rainfall, providing hands-on learning experiences.

Experienced Faculty
The department is staffed with a sufficient number of PhD-qualified faculty members, including those with international qualifications, covering diverse research areas within the field of geography.

Departmental Library
With a dedicated departmental library housing over 2000 books, including map libraries and National Geographic magazines spanning several decades, students have access to extensive resources for research and study.

Advanced Labs
The department's labs, including those for Hydro-Geomorphology, GIS, and Geomatics, are well-equipped to support practical coursework and independent research projects.

Research Excellence
Faculty members have a strong publication record in reputable international journals, with research articles spanning topics such as Natural Hazards, Remote Sensing, Disaster Risk Reduction, and Environmental Earth Sciences.

Collaborations and Partnerships
The department has established Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with various governmental and semi-governmental organizations at national and international levels, facilitating student engagement in geographical research and initiatives.

Internship Opportunities
Students benefit from internship opportunities provided by the department, as well as collaborations with related departments and authorities, including the Pakistan Meteorological Department, Provincial Disaster Management Authority, and private sectors.

Garrett Geographical Society (GGS)
Since its establishment in 1932, GGS promotes student exploration of geographical topics through study tours and recreational activities, enhancing their understanding of geomorphology, climatology, water resource management, drone technology, and settlement patterns.

Career Scope of the Programmes

Our graduates, equipped with a deep understanding of the interrelationships between physical and human environment and have a wide range of career opportunities available to them in both the private and public sectors. They can pursue roles in various government departments such as Education, the Pakistan Meteorological Department, Flood Forecasting Division, and the Land Revenue Department, as well as organizations like NDMA, ERRA, Mines and Minerals, Emergency Operation, NESPAK, and SNGPL.

Study Tour/Field Excursion

In BS Programme students are being taught different Professional courses including climatology, Disaster risk management, Geomorphology and Mineralogy. Department of Geography provide opportunity to students of study tour to different institutes, department and geomorphological sites.

Our students, being well educated on the interrelationships between society and the physical and human environment can join numerous different professions in both private and public sectors.
