International Art History Conference on "Identity and Representation"

Department of History of Arts   |   October 11-13, 2024

CALL FOR PAPERS:

The Department of History of Art at the Institute of Global and Historical Studies, Government College University, Lahore, invites submissions for its International Art History Conference on "IDENTITY AND REPRESENTATION," to be held from 11-13 OCTOBER 2024. This conference will examine how art reflects, challenges, and shapes identities across different regions, periods, and artistic forms; how art has been used to construct, express, and challenge identities in various contexts.

Artists and scholars have long been fascinated by the ways art represents different identities—whether regional, cultural, racial, or ideological. This conference aims to investigate these themes from a multitude of angles, focusing on how identity is represented through various art forms, crafts, emotions, and in the curation and display of art in museums and galleries.

We welcome abstracts that address a wide range of topics related to identity and representation in art, with a focus on regional histories, the role of ideology in art, the impact of crafts on identity, and the emotional aspects of artistic expression.

This conference intends to observe the tensions and negotiation through an interdisciplinary lens within various academic paradigms. We are interested in papers and panels that assess challenges and opportunities that emerge while navigating the global landscapes, covering the broadly interpreted themes of representation, Identity, development, and inequalities within the following paradigms, yet not exclusive to these.

Submissions may explore a range of topics, including but not limited to:
