The Historian is a peer-reviewed, biannual academic journal published by the Department of History, Institute of Global and Historical Studies, Government College University, Lahore—one of South Asia's most esteemed institutions of higher learning. Founded in 1971, the journal serves as a vibrant platform for critical scholarship, publishing original research that advances the understanding of history in all its global, comparative, and regional dimensions.

Founded with a mission to foster interdisciplinary and inclusive historical enquiry, The Historian encourages submissions that interrogate conventional narratives, revisit historiographical debates, and explore the intersections of history with politics, culture, gender, religion, environment, and technology. The journal welcomes a wide range of methodological approaches—archival, oral, theoretical, and digital—and seeks to bridge traditional and contemporary paradigms in historical research.

The editorial board comprises renowned scholars from globally leading institutions, reflecting the journal's commitment to international academic standards. The Historian publishes articles that are not only empirically grounded and analytically rigorous, but also reflective of ongoing debates in global historiography. Special issues and thematic sections address emerging trends and neglected voices in the field.

In keeping with its commitment to academic integrity, The Historian adheres to the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE, 2022) guidelines and follows a triple-blind peer review process. The journal maintains high ethical standards, rigorous editorial transparency, and an inclusive vision that supports early-career and established scholars alike.
