GCU`s 125th annual sports conclude

Government College University (GCU) Lahore’s 125th annual sports came to an end on Tuesday with gymkhana finals and a closing ceremony attended by students, faculty members and Old Ravians in large numbers.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Omer Chaudhry and Old Ravians Union President Athar Ismail attended the ceremony as chief guests. Speaking on the occasion, the vice-chancellor said the annual sports were an important part of the university’s traditions, and noted that faculty members had also participated actively this year.
Prizes were distributed among students for their performance in different events. Samra was declared the best female athlete, while Muhammad Zubair received the best male athlete award. In athletics, Ahmad Raza, an intermediate student, and Muhammad Zubair of the Department of Physical Education were also recognised for standout performances.
In inter-class competitions, Pre-Engineering secured first position, while ICS and ICom jointly remained second. In the departmental boys’ contests, Commerce and Finance took first place, Physical Education secured second and the Department of Law finished third. In the girls’ competitions, Political Science stood first, Commerce and Finance second and Physical Education third.
A tug-of-war between the Vice-Chancellor XI and the Old Ravians XI also drew interest, with the VC XI defeating the Old Ravians XI.
Registrar Dr Shaukat Ali, Prof Dr Babar Aziz, Chairman Sports Board Yasir Sultan, Director Sports Muhammad Waseem Akhtar and Manzoor Hassan Senior were also present.
