Eminent radiologist and Old Ravian Prof. Dr. Safdar Ali Malik has sponsored his seventh scholarship for financially deserving students of the Government College University (GCU) Lahore by donating Rs1 million to the GCU Endowment Fund Trust (EFT).
He handed over the cheque to Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Omer Chaudhry during a ceremony at the Vice Chancellor’s Office. Prof. Dr. Masood Akhtar, Vice Chancellor University of Baltistan, Skardu, and Prof. Dr. Khalid Manzoor Butt were also present on the occasion.
Thanking Prof. Dr. Safdar Ali Malik, the vice chancellor said alumni-backed endowment support is a lifeline for talented students who face financial constraints. He said a single scholarship can change a life—and when a student gets education, it often changes the destiny of an entire family, creating long-term social and economic impact.
He directed the relevant offices to convert the donation into a perpetual, merit-based scholarship, to be awarded annually to a financially challenged student, in line with the donor’s wishes. The vice chancellor added that strengthening the EFT is part of the university’s broader effort to ensure that no deserving student is forced to discontinue education due to financial hardship.
