The public and private sector universities of Lahore launched jointly laid the foundation of the Lahore Inter-University League with the aim of improving the quality of education and promoting student welfare. Under this initiative, it was decided to collaborate in various curricular and co-curricular activities. As the first event in this series, the “Khawaja Khurshid Anwar Music Competition” was organized at Government College University, Lahore in which male and female students from 17 universities participated, showcasing their talent in 15 different categories of vocal and instrumental music. Renowned music expert Ustaad Hamid Ali Khan from the Patiala Gharana of Classical Music and celebrated singer Ms Humaira Channa served as judges for the competition.
In the Khawaja Khurshid Anwar Music Competition, the students who secured first prizes included Ghulam Qambar, Khan Afsar, Safeera Johni, Ghiyas Haider, Tuba Khalid, Mubashir Hassan, Amina Batool, Abbas Farooq, Tussal Mehdi, Areeba Shafiq, Muhammad Abbas, Robinson, and Ghulam Shabbir. Those who won second prizes in their respective music categories were Hammad Ahmed, Abdullah Faheem, Bisma Idris, Andaleeb, Ali Zain, Nazar Abbas, Ali Zar, Syeda Faarin, Ali Hasnain Asif, Habiba Ramzan, Ali Nawaz, Salman Yaqoob, and Syed Saqib Anwar. The third prizes were awarded to Saqlain Raza, Sheeza Naeem Gul, Maham Parvez, Aman Ghulam, Syeda Faarin Fatima, Muhammad Musab, Haider Ali, Areej Zahra, Shujaat Ali, Zainab Zahra, Sarfaraz Saleem, and Junaid Alam.
In the concluding ceremony, a broad consortium of public and private universities in Lahore officially entered into a Framework of Understanding. Rana Sikandar Hayat, Minister for Higher Education Government of the Punjab, Chairman Punjab Higher Education Commission, Prof. Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan and Vice Chancellors from 17 Public and Private sector Universities were present in the ceremony which was arranged to ink this MoU.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Moeed Yousaf, Vice Chancellor Beaconhouse National University said, “This agreement is designed to foster academic excellence, advance collaborative research, and strengthen cultural and community engagement in alignment with both national priorities and international best practices”. Of particular significance to the student body, this framework creates a unique opportunity for academic mobility, enabling students to enroll in specific courses at partner universities. This initiative promises to break down institutional silos, promoting cross institutional learning and scholarly enrichment that will vastly expand the educational horizons for students across the city.
The signing ceremony, executed at Government College University, Lahore, united a prestigious and diverse array of educational institutions ranging from historic pillars of academia to specialized modern universities. The signatories include established giants such as the University of the Punjab, Government College University Lahore, Kinnaird College for Women, and the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore. The consortium further comprises Lahore College for Women University, Forman Christian College - a chartered University, and FAST-National University of Computing and Emerging Sciences. The partnership is fortified by the inclusion of Imperial College of Business Studies, Qarshi University, Riphah International University, Lahore Leads University, Beaconhouse National University, Information Technology University (ITU), University of Central Punjab, University of Education, University of Management and Technology (UMT), University of South Asia, Minhaj University Lahore, Lahore Garrison University, Nur International University, University of Home Economics, Institute for Arts and Culture, and Rashid Latif Khan University .
Prof Dr. Muhammad Omer Chaudhry, Vice Chancellor GC University Lahore, stated that the articles within this framework outline a comprehensive and flexible scope of cooperation, allowing members to operationalize specific aspects bilaterally or as a collective group. The agreement details fifteen specific areas of interest, prominently featuring student and faculty exchange programs to enhance credit transfer and professional development, alongside collaborative research and the hosting of joint national and international academic events. Beyond traditional academics, the framework emphasizes innovation through the strengthening of incubation centers, resource sharing, and capacity building via professional training. Crucially, the articles highlight a commitment to social responsibility, focusing on community engagement and joint efforts to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The agreement will remain in effect for three years, preserving the institutional autonomy of all members while keeping membership open to other universities in Lahore that wish to join this progressive aca
