Researchers, academics and environmental experts from across Pakistan and abroad gathered at Government College University (GCU) Lahore for the 19th All Pakistan Geographical Conference, where research papers were presented on climate change adaptation, disaster resilience and emerging environmental challenges.
The three-day conference, held this month under the theme "Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Resilience", was organised by GCU's Department of Geography under the auspices of the Pakistan Geographical Association, in collaboration with the Pakistan Red Crescent Society, German Red Cross and GCU's Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialisation (ORIC).
The conference covered 20 technical themes addressing major environmental challenges, including flood risk management, glacial lake outburst floods, water security and sustainable development.
Researchers also explored the application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing and artificial intelligence in disaster risk reduction, particularly in identifying environmental threats and improving preparedness.
Three panel discussions focused on heatwaves, urban resilience, smog and climate change, with participants examining their impacts, mitigation strategies and policy responses.
The conference provided a platform for researchers, policymakers and environmental experts to exchange scientific knowledge, strengthen academic collaboration and discuss evidence-based approaches to climate adaptation and disaster management in Pakistan.
