Aslam Kamal`s works featured at GCU calligraphy exhibition

The annual Islamic calligraphy exhibition was held at Government College University (GCU) Lahore, featuring works by renowned painter and calligrapher Aslam Kamal.
A large number of students, teachers and art enthusiasts attended the exhibition, which highlighted Islamic calligraphy as a living artistic tradition and drew keen interest from visitors. The two-day exhibition was organised by the university’s Library Society.
Old Ravian Prof Dr Anjum Jalal, a professor of cardiac surgery at the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC), was the chief guest. Faheem Kamal and Uzma Kamal, son and daughter of calligrapher Aslam Kamal, were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Librarian Muhammad Naeem said the university had been organising the Islamic calligraphy exhibition regularly for the past 25 years.
Prof Dr Anjum Jalal said such exhibitions provided students with inspiration and guidance in the fields of art and calligraphy. Faheem Kamal and Uzma Kamal stressed the need for greater patronage and support from universities to preserve the art of Islamic calligraphy.
Prof Dr Fouzia Ghani, chairperson of the Political Science Department, Dr Ahmad Raza Khan, in-charge of International Relations, and Dr Shahzad Ahmed, controller of examinations, also attended the event.
