High-level delegation of vice chancellors and senior representatives from leading universities of Gaza–Palestine visited Government College University Lahore today as part of their week-long tour to Pakistan, facilitated by OIC-COMSTECH.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Omer Chaudhry and senior university officials warmly received the delegation, which included Prof. Ayman M. F. Sobh, Prof. Omar K.A. Melad, Prof. Salem A.I. Sabbah, Prof. Ibraheem A.M. Abu Rahma, Prof. Dervis Mustafa Oglu and Prof. Noha A.M. Nijim.
During the visit, the Palestinian delegation met senior faculty of GCU, and explored avenues for academic collaboration, faculty exchanges and institutional support for rebuilding the higher-education sector in Gaza.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Omer Chaudhry expressed GCU’s strong commitment to stand with the people of Palestine and to provide every possible academic and research assistance to partner universities in Gaza. He emphasised that rebuilding Gaza’s universities is a collective responsibility of the global academic community.
The visiting academics also toured several departments and visited the historic room where Allama Muhammad Iqbal stayed during his studentship at Government College, Lahore, paying tribute to the philosopher-poet and GCU alumnus. They appreciated the university’s academic excellence and rich heritage.
Members of the delegation thanked the GCU administration for its warm hospitality and expression of solidarity, acknowledging Pakistan’s continued support for the Palestinian cause through education and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Prof. Ayman M.F. Sobh, president of Al-Aqsa University, thanked the people of Pakistan and said Palestinians were deeply moved by their heartfelt support.
