GC University Lahore hosts Seerah Conference under Ashra Rehmatul-lil-Alamin (PBUH)

The Department of Arabic & Islamic Studies, GC University Lahore, organized a Seerah Conference under Ashra Rehmatul-lil-Alamin (PBUH) to commemorate the blessed birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The conference focused on the state’s role in promoting the constructive use of social media in the light of Seerat-un-Nabi (PBUH).
Ashra Rehmatul-lil-Alamin is being observed this year from the 1st to the 12th of Rabi-ul-Awwal to mark 1447 Hijri as the 1500th blessed birth anniversary of the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAW).
In his opening remarks, GCU Arabic & Islamic Studies Department Chairperson Prof. Dr. Muhammad Farooq Haider highlighted the fundamental principles of guidance from the Seerah of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) regarding the positive and negative use of social media in the present era.
Addressing the conference, Allama Dr. Raghib Hussain Naeemi, Chairman of the Council of Islamic Ideology, underlined that the Prophetic teachings of truthfulness, responsibility, and prevention of harm provide clear guidance to tackle challenges of misinformation and unethical digital practices.
Dr. Sayyidah Sadia from GC Women University, Sialkot, stressed the need for dignity, safety, and meaningful participation of women online, guided by the Prophetic example. Prof. Dr. Abdullah Saleh of the Sheikh Zayed Islamic Centre, University of the Punjab, highlighted the principle of hisbah and its relevance in shaping policies that encourage virtuous content.
Prof. Dr. Abdul Quddus Suhaib of Bahauddin Zakariya University noted that the Prophet’s (PBUH) communication style—marked by wisdom, empathy, and dialogue—offers a powerful model to counter hate speech and negativity in the digital sphere.
In his concluding remarks, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hammad Lakhwi of the University of the Punjab emphasized that the state must ensure a digital environment based on mercy, unity, and knowledge rather than division and falsehood. The proceedings concluded with prayers for the unity of the Ummah and prosperity of the country.
A Seerah Workshop, a Seerah Seminar and Inter-university competitions of Qirat, Naat, and essay writing were also held under Ashra Rehmatul-lil-Alamin (PBUH) at GCU Lahore.
