Prof. Dr. Muhammad Omer Chaudhry, the newly appointed Vice Chancellor of Government College University Lahore, has called on faculty, students, and alumni to join forces in propelling the university toward global recognition.
He made these remarks during his address at the Institute of Economics, Policy, and Entrepreneurship's annual gathering. Prof. Dr. Babar Aziz, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, was also present at the event.
Speaking to students, faculty, and alumni, the Vice Chancellor emphasized the critical role of students and graduates in enhancing the university’s reputation both nationally and internationally. “The question we must ask ourselves is: Do we want this to remain just a good institution, or do we aim to make it a world-leading university? Achieving that vision is only possible if you become true ambassadors of GCU,” he said.
Prof. Dr. Omer Chaudhry, an alumnus of GCU’s Economics Department, referred to the university as his “home” and urged students to take ownership of their institution. “You are not just students; you carry the name of GCU wherever you go. It is your responsibility to uphold its goodwill and legacy,” he emphasized.
The Vice Chancellor also shared that he regularly receives messages from former Ravians, particularly those from the 1980s and 1990s, expressing pride in their alma mater and high hopes for its future. “Their expectations are high—and we must rise to meet them,” he noted.
The Vice Chancellor expressed his commitment to maintaining close ties with the department moving forward. The evening concluded with musical performances.
