The faculty, staff and students of Government College University (GCU) Lahore on Wednesday celebrated Pakistan's Independence Day with a vibrant and patriotic ceremony. The event was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shazia Bashir, accompanied by faculty members, led the flag-hoisting ceremony and also planted tree.
The celebration featured a variety of activities that highlighted the significance of the day, including the singing of national songs, inspiring speeches, an "Azadi Mushaira" poetry session, and a quiz competition. Mohammad Saad Farooq, the former president of the Nazir Ahmed Music Society, captivated the audience with a heartfelt rendition of a patriotic song.
The "Azadi Mushaira" was chaired by Wajid Ameer.
In her address, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shazia Bashir called for unity and collective action for the betterment of the country. "We must set aside our differences and unite for the progress of our nation," she urged, encouraging all to focus on the development of both the country and the institution.
She also highlighted the sacrifices made by our nation and soldiers at the time of independence and wars.
