The Olympic Day celebrations were held at GC University Lahore, featuring a series of events organized in collaboration with the Pakistan Olympic Association and the Higher Education Commission (HEC). The celebration included a tree plantation ceremony and an Olympic walk from the GCU Main Tower to the Main Gate, emphasizing environmental sustainability and the Olympic spirit.
The event was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shazia Bashir, who planted a tree outside the University’s Sports Hall. Several Olympians, including Secretary General of the Pakistan Olympic Association Mr. Muhammad Khalid Mehmood and Olympian Mr. Manzoor Ul Hassan Sr., also participated in the tree plantation and walk, highlighting the significance of the event in promoting sports and environmental awareness in Pakistan.
In her address, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shazia Bashir emphasized that these celebrations not only commemorates Olympic Day but also underscores our commitment to eco-friendly initiatives. “The participation of renowned Olympians and sports officials signifies the importance of promoting sports and environmental sustainability in Pakistan," she stated. She also encouraged students to work hard and make a name for themselves in sports.
The Olympic Walk, which began at the GCU Main Tower and concluded at the Main Gate, saw enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members. Directors of sports from various private and public sector universities also participated in the walk, reflecting the collaborative spirit of the event.
