GCU holds seminar on peace, happiness for students

The Government College University (GCU) Lahore hosted a seminar titled "Peace and Happiness in Turbulent Times" on Thursday, organized by the GCU Alumni Network in collaboration with the University’s Jones Physics Society, Rafi Physics Society, and Electronics Society.
The seminar featured esteemed speakers, Prof. Dr. Inam-ur-Rahman, a distinguished nuclear scientist and Professor Emeritus at the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), and Prof. Dr. Shazia Bashir, the first woman Vice Chancellor of GCU Lahore.
The seminar was marked by discussions on the role of education in national success, the importance of research in science and technology, and the need for a compassionate approach towards life and humanity.
Honored with Hilal-i-Imtiaz, Sitara-i-Imtiaz, and Aizaz-i-Kamal, the keynote speaker, Prof. Dr. Inam-ur-Rahman shared his personal experiences, emphasizing the importance of mental peace and happiness over wealth and fame.
He shared his personal journey, mentioning his education at GCU under the mentorship of Rafi Muhammad Chaudhry. "I did my F.Sc. from here 72 years ago, and it is an honor to address my alma mater today." He also discussed the role of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission and highlighted that nations investing in education are the ones that succeed.
He reassured the students that "good and bad times come to every country; we are not helpless, and we can achieve a lot." "Be people who serve, love, and do something for humanity," he advised. Dr. Inam concluded with a profound message: "The greatest wealth is mental peace. Money, wealth, and position can bring temporary happiness, but not permanent. When you serve others, you achieve inner peace. Improve your moral conduct."
Chief guest Prof. Dr. Shazia Bashir emphasized the value of practical experiences over textbook knowledge. She inspired students to model themselves after those who have made notable achievements in science and technology. "Our students have greatly benefited from your experiences," she remarked, thanking Dr. Inam and advocating for more lecture series that provide practical insights to students.
She added, "Students cannot find these life experiences in books. Make role models of those who have made a name in science and technology."
The event was attended by Dean Prof. Dr. Sultan Shah, Khalid Mahmood Sanjrani, and a large number of students and faculty members.
