National Games` Top Performers Honored at GCU Ceremony

The Higher Education Commission of Pakistan on Saturday celebrated the exceptional performances displayed by students from different universities at the national games.
In a ceremony held at GC University Lahore, over 80 athletes and their coaches were awarded cash prizes by the HEC.
GCU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shazia Bashir was the chief guest at the ceremony, which was also addressed by HEC Director General of Sports, Javed Ali Memon, and Olympian Khawaja Junaid.
Addressing the event, Vice Chancellor Prof. Shazia Bashir remarked on the vital role of sports and other positive activities in maintaining student health, especially given the current stressful environment.
"Balancing high performance in sports and education is challenging," stated Javed Memon, emphasizing the difficulties athletes face in the academic and sports realms.
He said that the HEC has also increased cash rewards for athletes as part of their ongoing commitment to enhancing sports facilities.
Mr. Memon said each year, the Commission organizes around 28 female and 35 male championships, aiming to provide a conducive environment for athletes to excel and bring pride to the nation.
"Our universities' students are now showing remarkable performances on both national and international levels," Prof. Memon said, while distributing the awards, underscoring the global reach and success of local athletes.
