GCU hosts farewell for minority graduates - minister pledges scholarships

The Government College University (GCU) celebrated the academic journey of its graduating students from minority communities at a special farewell ceremony attended by Provincial Minister for Human Rights and Minority Affairs Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora and Vice Chancellor Prof Muhammad Omer Chaudhry.

The 27 graduating students comprised 24 Christians, two Hindus, and one Sikh.

Notable dignitaries, including Dr Majeed Abel of the Naulakha Church, Kinnaird College for Women Principal Prof Dr Iram Anjum, and Prof Dr Satwant Kaur, also attended the event, sharing words of encouragement as the graduates transition into their professional lives.

Addressing the ceremony, Mr Arora reminisced about his time at GCU, attributing his professional success to his alma mater. The minister announced that the provincial government had already initiated scholarships for 1,000 minority students across Punjab.

"This number will soon be increased to 2,000," the minister stated.

Vice Chancellor Prof Omer Chaudhry stated that the ceremony reflected the university's enduring commitment to providing equal academic opportunities. He emphasised that the institution's primary goal is to empower its diverse student body to succeed professionally and contribute to a more inclusive future for the country.
