Media and Communication Studies

Introduction

The mass media are implicated in all that happens today, the world has become unknowable without a discerning press. This makes communication training both a practical matter and a moral one as well. In GCU Journalism was introduced as an elective subject at the undergraduate level by the Department of Political Science in 1987. When Government College Lahore was awarded the status of a University in 2002, the nomenclature of the subject was changed to Mass Communication. In September 2007, the Department of Mass Communication was established under the supervision of the Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. The Department of Mass Communication has been transitioned from offering mass communication as a minor subject to a degree awarding Department of Media and Communication Studies in the year 2021.

Our goal is to maintain a supportive, concerned relationship with students; devoted to generate intellectual excitement in them; transforming their lives by teaching the students to think critically and creatively while preparing them for careers in media studies.

By keeping in view the practical needs of students the department has also established Young Journalists' Society (YJS).
