Chairs at GCU
SALAM CHAIR IN PHYSICS
The Federal Government of Pakistan established Salam Chair in Physics at Government College, Lahore in 1999 to honor the Nobel Laureate of Pakistan, Prof. Dr. Abdus Salam who was student (1942-46) and faculty member (1951-54) at this College. Dr. G. Murtaza was appointed Professor Salam Chair in March 2000, He has continued to serve as Salam Chair for most of these years. A number of initiatives were taken to promote research activity in Physics at GCU. For the first time M.Phil and Ph.D program was launched on a regular basis. So far, Salam Chair has focused on theoretical plasma physics, to be specific, on the study of Linear and non-linear wave propagation in both the laboratory and space plasmas.
MEHBOOB UL HAQ CHAIR IN ECONOMICS
Dr. Mehboob-ul-Haq an Old Ravian and world renowned economist had a long and distinguished career as a policy maker while serving as a Chief Economics of Pakistan Planning Commission
DR. RAFI MUHAMMAD CHAUDHRI CHAIR IN PHYSICS
Dr. Rafi Muhammad Chaudhri was the pioneer of experimental nuclear Research in Pakistan and the founder of “High Tension Laboratory”

The University has also created the posts of Professor of Practice, Writer in Residence and Artiste in Residence on the pattern of western universities so as to benefit from the services of international and national scholars, writers and artistes of grade eminence for a fixed time period who do not meet customary requirements of university service but there outstanding acumen in their respective fields can enrich the University culture.
