GCU commemorates sacrifice of APS martyrs

The students and faculty members of Government College University Lahore commemorated the sacrifice of martyrs of the Army Public School by taking out a solidarity walk against terrorism extremism. “Education must be focused as it has a major role in fight against terrorism,” said Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah while addressing the participants of the walk organised by the Blood Donor Society and GCU Rovers’ Club from the university’s Postgraduate Block to Main Building.

The Vice Chancellor said terrorism could not be eliminated without fighting extremism, so Pakistan needed an education system which had a reach to the last children of the country and could inculcate in them tolerance and harmony. He also stressed the curriculum reforms in the primary and secondary levels of education, saying that GCU had held multiple policy dialogue in which it was a consensus among the academicians, journalists and intellectuals that the last sermon of Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and 11th August speech of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah should be comprehensively be made part of school level textbooks. Prof Shah said that the APS incident united us as a nation against terrorism and extremism.

Talking to media, the students also expressed their emotions and spoke about the pain they still feel remembering the APS victims. They believed that provision of quality education to all children would be the true revenge. They also chanted slogans in favor of the brave soldiers of Pakistan Army and other law enforcement agencies who had sacrificed their lives in war against terrorism.
